FLSA Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Full-Time or Part-Time: Part-Time
Salary Range: $17 - $25 per hour

Position Overview:
We are seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented Coder to join our team. This individual must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. The Coder will assign appropriate ICD-10 and/or CPT codes to patient records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established standards. Experience with ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, and CPT coding is required.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assign appropriate ICD-10 or CPT codes to patient records.
• Provide effective communication (written, verbal, non-verbal, and electronic) to clients and colleagues.
• Support performance improvement by assisting with audits and quality control tasks.
• Communicate any concerns regarding coding, documentation, or department issues to management.
• Share information, resources, and ideas to contribute to process improvement and productivity.
• Demonstrate the ability to assign principal and secondary diagnoses, procedures, and E&M codes accurately.
• Meet productivity standards as set by the organization.
• Identify issues or trends and report them to management for resolution.
• Other duties as required.
Skills & Technical Experience:
• Education & Certifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must have and maintain a professional coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCA, CCS, or CCS-P).
• Medical Record Technology, Anatomy, Medical Billing, or Coding courses are preferred.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in E&M coding (ICD-10 and CPT-4).
• At least 2 years of experience in medical record practices and procedures or completion of Medical Terminology coursework.
• Experience with ED Coding is required.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
• Ability to meet productivity standards and deadlines.
• Abilities/Attributes:
• Extremely organized and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Strong problem-solving skills to identify coding issues and trends.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certifications/OTJ Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Professional coding certification is required.
Leadership & Communication:
• Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and internal teams regarding coding accuracy and documentation concerns.
Problem-Solving & Process Improvement:
• Ability to identify coding issues or trends and bring them to management’s attention for timely resolution.
